Islam and Nazi Germany’s War

Tuesday 23 May 2017.  8pm.  Lyn Julius of Harif  will take part  in a discussion organised by  Campaign4Truth to examine the role played by Islam in the second world war.

In the book ‘Islam and Nazi Germany’s War’ Dr David Motadel reveals how German troops on the ground in North Africa, the Balkans, and the Eastern front engaged with diverse Muslim populations, including Muslim Roma and Jewish converts to Islam. In the most crucial phase of the Second World War, Nazi officials saw Islam as a powerful force with the same enemies as Germany: the British Empire, the Soviet Union, and the Jews.

Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem,  exiled to Baghdad for two years until 1941, sought Nazi license to exterminate Jews in Arab countries as well as the Palestine Mandate “in the same way as the problem was resolved in the Axis Countries.”

Lyn and David will be in conversation  to explore the collaboration of Islam in Nazi Germany’s war. Free, but donations welcome. Booking here.
