Book Launch: UPROOTED

Tuesday 6 February. The S&P Sephardi Community and Harif are delighted to invite you to the book launch of UPROOTED  (Vallentine Mitchell, 2018) by Lyn Julius at Lauderdale Road Synagogue, 2 Ashworth Rd, W9 1JY.
Until the mass exodus of Christians and Yazidis, the post-1948 displacement of more than 850,000 Jewish refugees was the largest population movement of non-Muslims from the Arab Middle East and North Africa, yet the subject is hardly ever discussed. The book also assesses how well these Jews have integrated into Israel and how their struggles have been politicised. It charts the growing clamour for recognition, redress and memorialisation for these Jewish refugees, and looks at how their cause can contribute to peace and reconciliation between Israel and the Muslim world.

Lyn Julius will be in conversation with Alan Bekhor about her book. Refreshments. Doors open 7:15 pm for 8pm. £8 S&P members, £10 non-members. Booking 0207 289 2573 or info@harif.org. Signed copies on sale.
